The old saying is styles make fights. However some styles make for boring fights and Machida is a fighter who has the ability to make a fighter and a fight boring, Rampage has the ability to make any fight fun especially by making his opponent airborne. The question is what will they look like together? Machida is likely to be gun-shy after a brutal Ko loss in his rematch with Shogun, Rampage is likely to be on a rampage knowing his last performance was lacklustre and Machida can be taken out.
The question is which mindset will prevail and can either of them stick to their game plan? Because in order to win they may have to. If Rampage losses his Rampage and zones out and plods through this fight he will surely be leg kicked and pot shotted by
Machida to a sleepy UD win. On the flipside if Machida losses his cool and forgets his Ko loss and tries to step it up, exchanging with rampage will almost certainly result in another Ko loss to the polished block and roll tactics of
Jackson.
So this fight is all about styles, both these guys need to do what they do best in order to win. The question is who is determined to stick to the plan. In my opinion Machida has the more consistent record of performance and despite the very real Ko possibility, Rampage has proven that he looses interest and variation to his attacks in recent years and this may aging prove the difference.
